Job Description

Student Health Center (SHC) at Texas State University-San Marcos is seeking a full-time staff Cashier. Responsibilities include operating a cashier window, collecting and posting payments, reconciling reports, and distributing filled prescription medications. Some supervision of student workers is required.

SHC is a nationally accredited, team-oriented ambulatory health care facility serving a student population of over 28,000. Clinic hours are 8 am - 5 pm MWF and 9 am - 6 pm on TTh. This position will be REQUIRED to work closing hours, which are later than the actual clinic hours. Additional hours are occasionally required.

Duties

This position operates the primary cashier window for the Student Health Center, which serves 200+ patients daily. Payments are collected in the cash drawer, credit card payments are processed, payments are posted in the computer system, and prescription medications are distributed. This position is also responsible for reconciling reports, balancing the cash drawer, processing refunds, reconciling and posting insurance payments, conducting inventory audits, providing some supervision of student cashiers, and working a closing rotation.

Required Qualifications

1) Experience operating a personal computer with Microsoft Windows and Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
2) Experience operating an adding machine and calculator.
3) Customer service experience.
4) Experience accurately collecting payments and balancing cash drawer.
5) Experience reconciling financial reports.
6) Ability to work closing hours two to three nights a week as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

1) 2 years or more cash handling experience, including reconciliation of deposits
2) Knowledge of basic accounting and auditing principles
3) Excellent customer service skills and knowledge.
4) Strong interpersonal communication skills.
5) Experience in a health care facility or with health insurance claims.
6) Supervisory experience.
